Heather

Heather discovered dance at a young age, like most girls through ballet, tap & jazz dance. She always wanted to be a dancer, but the opportunity never quite arrived. So she found a new love, music. She started playing the flute in elementary school, and then progressed to playing piccolo in marching band in high school & college at Arizona State University, where she got to travel out of state several times and even took a trip to Germany with the University of Maryland band for the NFL Europe League in 1998.
She decided to take bellydance classes after her 2 children were born, to have something to do that was fun and where she could be just herself without having to identify as a "mom". She began taking lessons from Yasmina through Mesa Parks & Rec in 2003, and discovered her love for Tribal Style Bellydance shortly thereafter. She loved the connection she shares with the other women she dances with, and after about a year made it her focus. She also discovered that her background in music helped tremendously in learning drum/zill rhythms, as well as phrasing and queueing with the music while dancing. Who knew that marching band would connect with bellydancing?!
Hipnotic Hips was born in July of 2005, and she was so excited to be a member of such a wonderful group of women. They quickly became close friends and, as they say, the rest is history.
